Frequently asked questions
Reiki is a Japanese Healing Art that promotes total healing of the mind, body, and spirit.
We believe that emotional wounds, traumas, stressors, and triggers get stored in the physical body, which then become physical issues.
If we can remove the emotional/energy based, issues, we can heal/prevent/reduce the physical issues of the body.
What Happens in a Reiki Session?
• The recipient has you lie down on a massage table, fully clothed.
• The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body in a series of positions.
• The session usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
• People often report feelings of warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation.
What Reiki Is Not:
• It's not a religion.
• It’s not a replacement for medical treatment.
• It doesn’t involve manipulation of the body like massage therapy.
Getting a massage can be a deeply relaxing and restorative experience. Here's what you can generally expect during a professional massage:
1. Before the Massage
• Arrival & Intake Form: You'll typically fill out a form about your health history, areas of pain or tension, and preferences (e.g. pressure level, areas to avoid).
• Consultation: The therapist may ask questions to tailor the session to your needs—whether you're looking to relax or address specific muscle issues.
• Privacy to Undress: You’ll be left alone to undress to your comfort level (usually to underwear or fully nude, depending on your preference), and lie on the massage table under a sheet & blanket.
2. During the Massage
• Draping: Only the area being worked on is uncovered. This maintains modesty and warmth.
• Environment: Expect a calm setting with soft lighting, quiet music, and sometimes aromatherapy.
• Techniques: Depending on the type of massage, the therapist may use:
• Long strokes (Swedish)
• Gentle kneading
• Tools like heated Himalayan salt stones & heated bolsters-(neck, shoulders, back)
• Aromatherapy
• Communication: You should feel comfortable speaking up if:
• Pressure is too much or too little
• You’re too hot or cold
• A specific area needs more/less focus
• Comfort: If you're ever uncomfortable—emotionally or physically—it's okay to stop the session.
3. After the Massage
• Slow Transition: The therapist will let you know the session is over and give you privacy to get dressed.
• Post-Massage Tips:
• Drink water (to help flush out toxins)
• Take it easy if it was a deep tissue massage—some soreness is normal
• They may offer feedback or suggestions for follow-up
